Onam Celebrations @ AIM

Onam, the State  festival of Kerala, is being celebrated at the Albertian Institute of Management on 9th Sept. 2016. In Kerala, it is the festival celebrated with most number of cultural elements and is reminiscent of Kerala’s agrarian past, as it is considered to be a harvest festival. ‘Ponnavani’, the Onam celebrations at AIM, was inaugurated by Dr.V.S.Sadanandan, Vice-Principal, St.Albert’s College, by lighting the traditional lamp. He said that the  Onam is the most sensitive emotion of each and every Malayali and they celebrate it with joy and pleasure. Onam celebrations in educational institutions has become more attractive with many cultural events, but at times it goes beyond control, he said. Dr.Titus Correya, Vice-Principal ( SF ) greeted the students and told them to imbibe the good messages conveyed by Onam. Dr.Rajagopala Nair, Director, AIM, in his welcome address, expressed his apprehensions, whether the people have risen to such a level to bring back the good days of Mahabali. Onam celebrations has become a season of enjoyment for the students without upholding the traditional values, he said. The first semester MBA students took initiative to organize the celebrations with Onam Pattu and Thiruvathira Kali. Onam Songs by the students, by Mrs.Shiny C.M and Mr.Peter Afraini was really a feast for ears. Malayali Maran and Malayali Manka competition was held, in which Mr. Seyyid Faiz and Miss Emimol respectively emerged victorious. Vadamvali and musical chair competitions were organised for the students. The major attraction of this years’ celebration was the Shinkari Mela, in which the students dance to the tune. The celebrations were concluded with a sumptuous  Onam Sadya.
